Social Security Disability Insurance is different than a private short term or long term disability plan provided by your employer. SSDI is also very different than Workers Compensation:

Private Long Term
or Short Term Disability Plan
Workers Compensation
Social Security Disability
Depending on the insurance contract, pays you cash benefits if you can not do the job you were doing when you became disabled.
Pays you cash benefits if you can not do the job you were doing when you became disabled. The workers comp insurance company may award cash benefits based on a percentage of disability, depending on how severely you were injured on the job and how long your injury will hurt you ability to work.
You can only be found disabled if you are unable to do any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months.

Social Security Disability has its own special rules for deciding your case. There is no "partial disability" or "percentage of disability" with Social Security. The regulations require that your impairments prevent you from doing ANY kind of work that a person of your age and education could be expected to do. And, your impairment must result from anatomical, physiological, or psychological abnormalities that Social Security claims workers can see in " medically acceptable clinical and laboratory diagnostic techniques."

Whether your Application for Benefits is being reviewed by a Reconsideration worker, an Administrative Law Judge or the Decision Review Board, your case deserves the representation provided by an attorney who specializes in Social Security Disability Law.
